WHIP-POOR-WILL

The Whip-Poor-Will is a rare, nocturnal, ground nesting species. This species, more common further south, is poorly sampled by the BCN Survey.  An Audubon study found large declines in this species nationwide in the last 40 years. Habitat loss due to fire suppression, fragmentation by roads and development, and gypsy moth control programs have been suggested as possible causes of declines.
