NORTHERN HARRIER

The Northern Harrier is a very rare breeder in the CW Region, although it winters in our grasslands. It selects large areas of moist grassland and/or marshes for breeding. This species has decreased substantially during the past century due to habitat loss. Summering birds have been encountered at a few locations in the CW Regions over the years, but populations in locations with fewer than 500-1000 acres of grassland may not be sustainable.
