GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER

The Great Crested Flycatcher is a common statewide breeder. Preferred habitat is usually cavities in open woodlands or forest edges. Trends show a nearly significant decrease in the CW Region during the past nine years. This species is very well sampled by the BCN Survey. Competition with European Starlings, woodpeckers, House Wrens, Eastern Bluebirds, and other species may be contributing to declines. The potential impact resulting from the spread of Gypsy Moths to our area is also unknown. Photo: © Eric Secker
