A couple YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were also seen. A report that accidently didn't get included last week, but is still worth mentioning: A NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL was seen roosting in some buckthorn at West Branch Forest Preserve on March 11th. SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS have been reported from a number of locations. SANDHILL CRANES have been seen flying over at a number of locations this week. ____ KANE COUNTY ______________________________________ Highlights at Burnidge F.P. on February 24th included TURKEY VULTURE, SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, and flyover SANDHILL CRANES. Highlights near Hampshire F.P. this week include RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES and RUSTY BLACKBIRD. ____ FERMILAB SIGHTINGS _______________________________ At FermiLab on February 18th an adult BALD EALGE was seen at the south end of A.E. Sea. A RUSTY BLACKBIRD was seen on February 21st. A variety of ducks and GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE continue to be seen on the Main Ring Lake (restricted). This will be an all day trip to visit several sites along the Mississippi River to see Bald Eagles (sometimes hundreds!), other raptors, gulls and waterfowl. On the return trip, we may make a few stops in Lee or DeKalb Co. to look for Longspurs, Snow Buntings, game birds, and raptors. Meet at 7:00 AM in the parking lot southwest of the main building of Yorktown Mall (facing the intersection of Butterfield Rd and Highland Ave.). Bring scopes, walkie-talkies and dress for the cold. A personal ID (drivers license) may be required at some viewing areas. This trip is limited to 20 people (8 cars) so please sign up with the leader after February 1.
