____ DUPAGE COUNTY ______________________________________

At FermiLab on Sunday, January 2, a young GLAUCOUS GULL and two LESSER
BLACK-BACKED GULLS (1st yr., and 2nd or 3rd yr.) were seen on the ice
at A.E. Sea.  At Lake Law birds seen include GREATER WHITE-FRONTED
GOOSE, NORTHERN PINTAIL, COMMON GOLDENEYE, LESSER SCAUP, AMERICAN BLACK
DUCK, COMMON MERGANSER, and CACKLING GEESE.

Current Access: Visitors to FermiLab must enter from the Pine Street
entrance off of Kirk Road and ask for a "Bird-Watching Pass" at the
gatehouse which will allow you to drive back to Lake Law on the main
road and exit from either the east OR west entrance.

At Blackwell on January 2nd, an adult TRUMPETER SWAN (probably one of
the birds released from BP in Naperville) was seen in the north end
backwaters of Blackwell Forest Preserve on Butterfield Rd. in
Warrenville.  Other birds seen include AMERICAN BLACK DUCK, COMMON
MERGANSERS, CACKLING GOOSE, and BELTED KINGFISHER.

On Thursday, January 13, Geoff Williamson and Walter Marcisz will
present on "Gull Identification".  The meeting begins at 7:30pm and

Sunday, January 9, 7:30 a.m. DesPlaines River. 
We will do a tour of the DesPlaines River between Joliet and Romeoville
looking for waterfowl and other over wintering birds. A stop to warm up
at Pilcher Park Nature Center in Joliet and view the feeder birds will
be included. Meet at 7:30 am at the "Park & Ride" parking lot on Old
Chicago Drive just east of IL-53 (behind the Ramada) about 1/4 mile
south of I-55 in Bolingbrook. Bring your walkie-talkies as we will
carpool.
