____ DUPAGE COUNTY ____________________________________

At Greene Valley on January 19, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK and a NORTHERN
HARRIER were seen near the landfill hill. The NORTHERN SHRIKE was also
still present along the entrance road off of 79th street.

A COMMON REDPOLL was seen in the Yard in Downers Grove on January 27.

Highlights at FermiLab on January 25 included two ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS
and a NORTHERN HARRIER.

On January 25, an immature RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen along I-355
near 75th street.

____ KANE COUNTY _______________________________________

At the Fox River on January 23, an adult GLAUCOUS GULL, a first year
GLAUCOUS GULL, and two adult THAYER'S GULLS were seen. A REDHEAD was
also present below the dam. Park in the lot on the north side of Route
38, just west of Route 25 and just east of the Fox River.

On January 24, gulls seen included a first year ICELAND GULL and three
THAYER'S GULLS (2 ad. and 1 imm.).

On January 24 at the Fox River in South Elgin, dozens of COMMON
GOLDENEYE, four COMMON MERGANSERS, and four or five HOODED MERGANSERS
were seen. A leucistic (whitish) CANADA GOOSE was also present among
the hundreds of other Canada Geese.

Birds seen this week at Blackhawk F.P. include EASTERN BLUEBIRDS,
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, HERMIT THRUSH, BROWN CREEPER, and CEDAR
WAXWINGS.

____ UPCOMING FIELD TRIP ______________________________

Sunday, February 1, 2004, 8:00 a.m. DeKalb County. We will drive the
roads looking for wintering birds such as Lapland Longspurs, Snow
Buntings, Horned Larks etc. A stop at Shabbona Lake is a possibility if
the water is open. Mid-morning, we will take a break at Vicky Wegner's
house in Somonauk for her traditional great brunch. Feeder watching
from her warm and cozy breakfast area is always the highlight of this
trip! Meet at the Aurora Municipal Airport in Sugar Grove. Take l-88 to
Route 56 west which becomes US 30 west. The airport is on the west side
of Sugar Grove, on the north side of US 30. Note: This trip is limited
to 20 people. You must call and register with the leaders.
