On March 31st at Elsen’s Hill 20 turkey vultures, two Cooper’s hawks
and two winter wrens were spotted.
At Mallard Lake on the 31st, a horned grebe was seen.
Also on the 31st at Maple Grove, a tufted titmouse was spotted.
At a backyard in Downer’s grove on March 31st, a bald eagle, two
peregrine falcons and a Cooper’s hawk were spotted flying over.
On April 1st, a bobolink, bald eagle, Cooper’s hawk, Brewer’s blackbird
and chipping sparrow were seen at Pratt’s Wayne Woods and a winter wren
was spotted at Elsen’s Hill.
At a backyard in Wheaton on April 2nd & 3rd, red-breasted nuthatch,
winter wren and three purple finches were spotted.
At Elsen’s Hill on April 6th, two common loons were seen.
During the DuPage Birding Club field trip on April 7th , three common
loons were seen at the West Branch Forest Preserve, four horned grebes
and a red-breasted merganser were seen at Mallard Lake, two turkey
vultures and a Cooper’s hawk were seen at McKee Marsh and a Cooper’s
hawk and a yellow-bellied sapsucker were seen at McDowell Grove.
At Blackwell Forest Preserve on April 7th, two common loons were
spotted.
On April 9th, a redhead was seen at Pratt’s Wayne Woods and a
Swainson’s thrush was seen at McKee Marsh.
Also on the 9th, a red-shouldered hawk was seen at Waterfall Glen and
at Elsen’s Hill, rufous-sided towhee, white-crowned and chipping
sparrows were spotted.
A palm warbler, two Louisiana waterthrushes, field and savannah sparrow
were seen at Waterfall Glen on April 11th.
A Henslow’s sparrow was seen at Hidden Lake on the 11th along the
fishing trail past the bridge.
Also on the 11th at the Morton Arboretum, Louisiana waterthrush and
pine warbler were seen at parking lot 15. A common loon was seen at
Arbor Lake. A Cooper’s hawk was spotted on the 12th.
Two pine warblers were also seen at West Chicago Prairie on April 11th
in the west savannah that is in the center of the preserve.
