Upcoming Field Trips
On Saturday January 22, 2000 at 9:00 am - The Lake County Gull Trip. This trip offers a good opportunity to find a variety of gulls, waterfowl and perhaps a few good passerines along the north shore of Lake Michigan. The outing will start at Mathon's Restaurant parking lot adjacent to the Waukegan Harbor. From I-94, take the Belvidere Rd exit (Ill. 120) east. Follow this until Sheridan Rd., where you'll turn north (left). Turn right at the McDonald's, and cross the overpass. Make another right turn, and Mathon's Restaurant will be at the bottom of the hill, on your left. Dress warmly, bring a telescope if you have one and, if possible, a loaf or two of bread for chumming the gulls (this will help us to get some good looks). We will likely check out various overlooks on the way north. Depending on our success, we may travel as far as North Point Marina in Winthrop Harbor. Please check the hotline several days before for possible changes, as this trip is dependent upon lake ice conditions. The leader is Jonathan Simms who can be reached at (630) 792-0619.
On Saturday February 5, 2000 at 7:00 am - The Mississippi River Eagle Trip. This is an all-day trip to witness the gathering of Bald Eagles along the Mississippi River in western Illinois. We should also be able to find other raptors and waterfowl. We will meet in front of the upper level entrance to Montgomery Wards at the Yorktown Shopping Center (which is at Highland and Butterfield in Lombard). If there is sufficient interest (call Pat), we can arrange a second meeting place on Rte. 59 near I-88. The leader is Pat Newman who can be reached at (630) 323-4806.
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the DuPage Birding Club will be on March 9th. This will be our annual auction.
The meeting location is Faith Lutheran Church at 41 N. Park Boulevard in Glen Ellyn. Social time begins at 7:00pm with the program starting at 7:30pm. To get to the meeting, take Roosevelt Road to Park Boulevard in Glen Ellyn. Go north on Park Boulevard for 2 blocks and you will see the church on the east side of the street. The parking lot and entrance are in the rear. The meeting is in the church hall on the lower level.
