__DUPAGE COUNTY_______________________________________________
Two REDPOLLS appeared at the feeders in the Yard in Downers Grove last Monday. Over 30 SISKINS were also present along with the continuing HERMIT THRUSH, 2 FOX SPARROWS and a single male RED- WINGED BLACKBIRD.
At the Willowbrook Wildlife Center, there was a female PURPLE FINCH at the feeders on Tuesday and a COMMON REDPOLL in the marsh and hill area on Wednesday.
Seven BLACK DUCKS and four GREEN-WINGED TEAL (3 male, one female) were at Hidden Lake on Thursday, along with a Krider's RED-TAILED HAWK. The teal were found again on Saturday.
At the Arboretum, on Sunday, a SAW-WHET OWL was found near the Four Columns. On Hemlock Hill, the WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were sighted. YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were found in the Hedge Garden. WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were found on both Saturday and Sunday, and BLUEBIRDS were found at Arbor Lake and Meadow Lake over the weekend. Other birds seen on Sunday include a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK and SISKINS at the visitor center feeder and elsewhere.
At Greene Valley, on Saturday, a SWAMP SPARROW was found. GREEN- WINGED TEAL and BLACK DUCKS were found at the 83rd St. Marsh.
On Saturday, at Lyman woods, WHITE-THROATED and SWAMP SPARROWS were found.
A light phase ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was at the intersection of Roosevelt Road and Kautz Road in West Chicago last Monday.
__KANE COUNTY_________________________________________________
Last Monday, at Settler's Hill, a first winter CALIFORNIA GULL and a possible first winter GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL were found. Also seen was an adult ICELAND, one second winter LESSER BLACK- BACKED, and several THAYER'S GULLS. One third winter THAYER'S GULL was found on Thursday.
Two adult THAYER'S GULLS, an adult ICELAND GULL, and a second winter LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL were seen in Geneva on Thursday. They were roosting in the river near a park and lot just north of Route 38 on Route 25. The Fox River Trail goes through this park. An adult GLAUCOUS GULL was seen at this location on Friday.
__FERMILAB____________________________________________________
An adult SHARP-SHINNED HAWK was seen at Fermilab on Thursday behind the white house that's across from the Red Barn.
The Fermilab field trip found some good birds on Saturday. BLACK DUCKS, a SNOW GOOSE, a PINTAIL and a COMMON MERGANSER were found along with WHITE-CROWNED and WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS.

Upcoming Field Trips
On Sunday, January 9 at 7:30 am, we do the traditional January tour of the Des Plaines River between Romeoville and Joliet looking for various waterfowl and raptors. Meet at the Menard's parking lot on Route 53, just south of I-55 in Bolingbrook. Dress warmly as we will be checking out several of the Locks and Dams along the river. The leader is Urs Geiser who can be reached at (630) 515-1712.
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the DuPage Birding Club will be on January 13th. There will be a panel discussion on popular DuPage Birding areas, Fermi Lab, Springbrook Prairie, and Mc Dowell.
The meeting location is Faith Lutheran Church at 41 N. Park Boulevard in Glen Ellyn. Social time begins at 7:00pm with the program starting at 7:30pm. To get to the meeting, take Roosevelt Road to Park Boulevard in Glen Ellyn. Go north on Park Boulevard for 2 blocks and you will see the church on the east side of the street. The parking lot and entrance are in the rear. The meeting is in the church hall on the lower level.
