This is the DuPage Birding Club Hotline for Wednesday, January

13, 1999 at 10:30pm



LAPLAND LONGSPURS made appearances at feeders all over the area

since the Blizzard of 1999.



From DuPage County:



At Mallard Lake - on Tuesday, there was one adult GLAUCOUS GULL

and adult and 3rd year LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS. Small flocks

of HORNED LARKS and LAPLAND LONGSPURS were seen as well.



The last report I have for the SAW-WHET OWL on Hemlock Hill at

the Arboretum was for December 31.



From Kane County:



A FLICKER was seen at a feeder in a yard in Batavia on the 3rd.



Several BALD EAGLES have been seen along the Fox River, including

one in South Elgin which was best seen from along the bike path.

3 more were found between Aurora and Oswego from Route 25.

Another was seen on Christmas in St. Charles and on the 31st in

Batavia.



An AMERICAN COOT was seen along the Fox River in St. Charles on

Monday.



Last week, flocks of HORNED LARKS, LAPLAND LONGSPURS and a few

SNOW BUNTINGS have been seen on Main Street west of Kaneville,

between Shaw Road and McGirr Road. A CHUKAR of unknown origin

was also seen.



On the 1st, there was a pair of banded TRUMPETER SWANS along with

some MUTE SWANS in Batavia, just north of the Wilson Street

bridge. On the 31st, a couple of WIGEONS were seen.



On the 31st, 4 MUTE SWANS were seen in St. Charles.



A FOX SPARROW was seen in a yard in Geneva on the 2nd.



A pair of RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS were seen in a yard in Aurora on

Friday.



From Fermilab:



On Saturday, a SHORT-EARED OWL was seen flying in the field north

of the Buffalo Feeders.



On the 31st, a SNOW GOOSE was on Swan Lake and a FLICKER was seen

along the stream to the west of Wilson Hall.



A RUDDY-DUCK was seen on Swan Lake today.



On Sunday, SNOW BUNTINGS were seen in the field north of the

buffalo feeders.



A NORTHERN SHRIKE was relocated on Sunday at the center of the

ring (not open to the public).



LAPLAND LONGSPURS and HORNED LARKS have been seen at the Buffalo

Feeders, at least through last Sunday.



A pair of HOODED MERGANSERS have been seen on Swan Lake.



7 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were on Swan Lake on the 1st.



There have been several sightings of ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS and

NORTHERN HARRIERS at the lab.



From Will County:



At the Naperville Polo Fields, on Wednesday, there were about 60

HORNED LARKS found behind the horse barns. A pair of RUSTY

BLACKBIRDS were in the field where the manure has been spread.

To get to the Naperville Polo Club, go south on Route 59 to 119th

St. Go east. The Club will be on the north side of the road in

a quarter mile or so.



An all white probable RED-TAILED HAWK was seen at the

intersection of Boughton and Naperville-Plainfield roads on

Wednesday.



On Sunday, at least one GLAUCOUS GULL was at the Lockport Locks.

At least 11 species of ducks were seen on the river between

Lockport and Romeoville.
