This is the DuPage Birding Club Hotline for Friday, April 3, 1998

at 10:30pm



The following birds have been reported from several locations:

PHOEBES, TREE SWALLOWS, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS, GOLDEN-CROWNED

KINGLETS, FOX SPARROWS, GREEN-WINGED AND BLUE-WINGED TEAL,

migrating TURKEY VULTURES, RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, RING-NECKED

DUCKS and RUDDY DUCKS.



From Dupage County:



At McKee Marsh - a BLACK DUCKwas seen on Saturday.



At Songbird Slough, on Tuesday - PIED-BILLED GREBE, LESSER SCAUP

and WOODCOCKS were found.



At the Arboretum - EASTERN TOWHEES and YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS

were seen on Thursday.



At Pratt's Wayne, north of Stearns Road in the Tri-County Park

area - a VESPER SPARROW was seen on Monday.



At Greene Valley - On Sunday, a WINTER WREN was seen in the Big

Woods along the stream, a TUFTED TITMOUSE was found in the Big

Woods near the pond, a FIELD SPARROW, migrating SHARP-SHINNED,

COOPERS and RED-TAILED HAWKS and a HARRIER were also located.

WOODCOCK were seen on Sunday evening in the field northeast of

the main parking lot. A SNIPE flew over around sunset.



At Argonne - a CHIPPING SPARROW was found on Monday.



At Rice Lake - 1 COMMON LOON, 2 HORNED GREBES, 3 AMERICAN

WIGEONS, 2 HOODED MERGANSERS and 2 COMMON MERGANSERS were seen on

Monday.



From Cook County:



In Bartlett, on West Bartlett Road, just east of Route 25, at the

Balefill - 2 HERMIT THRUSHES and a RUSTY BLACKBIRD were seen on

Thursday. 10 BONAPARTE GULLS flew over West Bartlett Road on

Friday.



At Wolf Road Prairie - WOODCOCKS were seen on Saturday evening.



From Kane County:



In South Elgin, at Route 25 and Middle St., a LESSER BLACK-BACKED

GULL was seen in the southwest corner of the quarry on Saturday.



At Nelson Lake Marsh - on Saturday, a BROWN THRASHER and EASTERN

TOWHEE were found.



In South Elgin - on Friday, 2 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were seen.



From Fermilab:



At Lake Law - 6 HORNED GREBES were seen on Sunday along with

LESSER SCAUP, PINTAIL, WIGEON and GADWALL.

Saturday, April 25, 1998, 7:30 am: Early warblers and other

woodland birds at Waterfall Glen F.P. Meet at the main parking

lot on Cass Avenue just south of I-55. Leaders: Bob and Karen

Sunday, April 26, 1998, 7:30 am: Warbler search at the Elsen's

Hill section of West DuPage Woods F.P. The parking lot is on

Gary's Mill Road between Roosevelt and Winfield Roads. Leader:

Saturday, May 2, 1998: McDowell Grove F.P. in Naperville. Leader:

Denis Kania.



Sunday, May 3, 1998: Warrenville Grove F.P. in Warrenville.

Leader: Gary Moore.



Thursday, May 7, 1998: Morton Arboretum in Lisle. Leader: Melinda

Born.



Sunday, May 10, 1998: Maple Grove F.P. in Downers Grove. Leader:

Tom Koz.



The next meeting of the DuPage Birding Club will be on April 9th

at 7:30pm



The subject is the Mysteries of the Magic Hedge, by Jim Landing.



The meeting location is Faith Lutheran Church at 41 N. Park

Boulevard in Glen Ellyn.



To get to the meeting, take Roosevelt Road to Park Boulevard in

Glen Ellyn. Go north on Park Boulevard for 2 blocks and you will

see the church on the east side of the street. The parking lot

and entrance are in the rear. The meeting is in the church hall

on the lower level.



Social time starts at 7pm and the meeting will begin at 7:30pm.
