This is the DuPage Birding Club Hotline for Friday, March 27,

1998 at 9pm



The following birds have been reported from several locations:

SANDHILL CRANES were reported on the 7th, 22nd and 24th. TURKEY

VULTURES were reported on the 23rd, 24th and today. SHOVEL0RS,

SCAUP and BUFFLEHEADS are being seen in many locations



From Dupage County:



At Lyman Woods - HOODED MERGANSERS were seen on the 7th



At Songbird Slough - I have a report of 3 EARED GREBES from the

19th.



In West Chicago - a singing PURPLE FINCH was seen today at a

feeder.



At Hidden lake - FOX and WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were seen on the

5th. A FIELD SPARROW, GREEN and BLUE-WINGED TEAL were seen on

Thursday.



At Springbrook Prairie - a BALD EAGLE was seen by two observers

on the 8th.



In Naperville - displaying WOODCOCK are being seen at the

Naperville Cemetery near Edward Hospital.



WOODCOCK are also being seen at Fullerton Park



At Four Lakes - RING-NECKED DUCKS were seen on Thursday.



At Maple Grove - TUFTED TITMICE, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS and a

WINTER WREN were seen on Thursday



At Fullersburg - an EASTERN PHOEBE was seen on Thursday.



Another PHOEBE was seen in a yard in Downers Grove, also on

Thursday.



From Fermilab:



A TURKEY VULTURE, BLUEBIRDS, PIED-BILLED GREBE and RED-BREASTED

MERGANSERS were seen on the 7th. GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE

were on main ring lake on the 13th. A Female PURPLE FINCH was

found in an off-limits area on the 13th. RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS

were seen on the 21st.



From Will County:



At Lake Renwick - CORMORANTS were seen on Monday.



From Kane County:



At Nelson Lake Marsh - 16 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, a HOUSE WREN and 4

FOX SPARROWS were found on Thursday.



From DeKalb County:



At Shabbona - 14 species of waterfowl including TUNDRA SWAN,

HOODED MERGANSER, CANVASBACK and RED HEAD were found on the 14th.

On the 22nd, a MUTE SWAN was found along with more HOODED

MERGANSERS, RED HEADS, CANVASBACKS, RUDDY DUCKS, RING-NECKED

DUCKS, WOOD DUCKS, GADWALL and a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK which was

flying over the field south of the dike.

Saturday, March 28, 1998, 8:00 am: Spring waterfowl in the Palos

area. Meet at McGinnis Slough, LaGrange Road (US45) about 1/2

Sunday, March 29, 1998, 7:30am: Early passerine migrants at

Greene Valley F.P. Meet at the main parking lot off 79th Street,

west of Greene Road. Conditions will likely be muddy, therefore

Wednesday through Friday, April 1-3, 1998, 30 minutes before

sunset: Woodcock displays. Only if wind is under 10 mph and the

temperature is over 35 F. Two locations: Pratt's Wayne F.P.

parking lot on Army Trail Road just east of Powis Road. Call Jack

Saturday, April 11, 1998, 8:00am: Spring migrants at the Magic

Hedge at Montrose Harbor, Chicago. Leader: Dr. Jim Landing. Call

Tuesday, April 21, 1998, 8:00am: Migrants at Hidden Lake F.P.,

Route 53 just south of Butterfield Road. Leaders: Jo Donaldson,

Saturday, April 25, 1998, 7:30 am: Early warblers and other

woodland birds at Waterfall Glen F.P. Meet at the main parking

lot on Cass Avenue just south of I-55. Leaders: Bob and Karen

Sunday, April 26, 1998, 7:30 am: Warbler search at the Elsen's

Hill section of West DuPage Woods F.P. The parking lot is on

Gary's Mill Road between Roosevelt and Winfield Roads. Leader:

Saturday, May 2, 1998: McDowell Grove F.P. in Naperville. Leader:

Sunday, May 3, 1998: Warrenville Grove F.P. in Warrenville.

The next meeting of the DuPage Birding Club will be on April 9th

at 7:30pm



The subject is the Mysteries of the Magic Hedge, by Jim Landing.



The meeting location is Faith Lutheran Church at 41 N. Park

Boulevard in Glen Ellyn.



To get to the meeting, take Roosevelt Road to Park Boulevard in

Glen Ellyn. Go north on Park Boulevard for 2 blocks and you will

see the church on the east side of the street. The parking lot

and entrance are in the rear. The meeting is in the church hall

on the lower level.



Social time starts at 7pm and the meeting will begin at 7:30pm.
