This is the DuPage Birding Club Hotline for Friday, March 6, 1998

at 9:30pm.



The following birds have been reported from several locations:

COMMON GRACKLES, EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, EASTERN MEADOWLARKS, COMMON

MERGANSERS, NORTHERN SHOVELERS and singing SONG SPARROWS



SANDHILL CRANES were seen in the area on the 21st, 24th, 25th, 26th,

28th



Please note that there is a correction to the start time for the

auction next week. The auction will actually begin at 7pm

instead of 7:30pm. If you have stuff for the auction, please

bring it at 6:30pm.



A new all points bulletin and events announcement have been

recorded.



From Dupage County:



In a yard in Lisle - a pair of COMMON REDPOLLS were seen on the

26th.



At Rice Lake - RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS and LESSER SCAUP were seen

on the 22nd.



At Hidden Lake - A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was still present by the

bridge on the 22nd.



At Springbrook Prairie - on the 22nd, a HARRIER, KILLDEER and

COMMON SNIPE were found.



At Waterfall Glen Office Park pond - on the 24th, a LESSER SCAUP

and a fly-over KILLDEER were seen.



At the Arboretum - On the 24th, 8 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were

found in the Alders by the Japanese Slough on the east side. A

HAIRY WOODPECKER was also seen, along with a red phase SCREECH

OWL on the west side.



At McDowell Grove - on the 21st, BROWN CREEPERS and the CAROLINA

WREN were found.



In Elmhurst - a PINE SISKIN was seen in a yard on the 21st.



In a yard in Downers Grove - on the 24th, a pair of WOOD DUCKS

were seen along with a FLICKER, HAIRY WOODPECKER and a SHARP-

SHINNED HAWK. On the 23rd, 9 COMMON REDPOLLS were seen.



At Argonne - a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen on the 25th.



At Mallard Lake - on the 21st, 2 to 4 THAYER'S and 1 GLACUOUS

GULL were found.



At West Chicago Prairie - 10-12 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were seen

today.



From Kane County:



At Nelson Lake - on Saturday, 7 AMERICAN BLACK DUCK, 1 NORTHERN

PINTAIL and 3 AMERICAN WIDGEONS were seen.



The next meeting of the DuPage Birding Club will be on March 12th

at 7pm. This is our annual club auction and the meetin time is =BD

hour earlier than usual. In addition, if you have some cool bird

oriented stuff to donate, please try to get there by 6:30pm.

Please note that the start time in the newsletter is

incorrect...the start time is 7:00pm.



Please note that our meeting location has changed back to Faith

Lutheran Church at 41 N. Park Boulevard in Glen Ellyn.



To get to the meeting, take Roosevelt Road to Park Boulevard in

Glen Ellyn. Go north on Park Boulevard for 2 blocks and you will

see the church on the east side of the street. The parking lot

and entrance are in the rear. The meeting is in the church hall

on the lower level.



Our April 9th meeting will be the Mysteries of the Magic Hedge,

by Jim Landing. The starting time will be 7:30pm with social

time at 7pm.

Sunday, March 15, 1998, 8:00 am: Early migrating waterfowl at

Fermilab. Meet at the Lederman Educational Center on Pine Street.

Sunday, March 22, 1998, 8:00 am: Shabbona Lake St.P. and

environs. There may be a remote chance of finding Gray Partridge!

More reliable are water birds, winter finches, longspurs, and

Snow Buntings. Shabbona is located one mile south of US30 in SW

DeKalb County. Meet at the Three Fires restaurant parking lot.

Saturday, March 28, 1998, 8:00 am: Spring waterfowl in the Palos

area. Meet at McGinnis Slough, LaGrange Road (US45) about 1/2

mile south of 131st Street. Leaders: Bob and Karen Fisher, (630)

Sunday, March 29, 1998, 7:30am: Early passerine migrants at

Greene Valley F.P. Meet at the main parking lot off 79th Street,

west of Greene Road. Conditions will likely be muddy, therefore

wear boots. Leader: Urs Geiser, (630) 515-1712.



Wednesday through Friday, April 1-3, 1998, 30 minutes before

sunset: Woodcock displays. Only if wind is under 10 mph and the

temperature is over 35 F. Two locations: Pratt's Wayne F.P.

parking lot on Army Trail Road just east of Powis Road. Call Jack

Saturday, April 11, 1998, 8:00am: Spring migrants at the Magic

Tuesday, April 21, 1998, 8:00am: Migrants at Hidden Lake F.P.,

Saturday, April 25, 1998, 7:30 am: Early warblers and other

woodland birds at Waterfall Glen F.P. Meet at the main parking

Sunday, April 26, 1998, 7:30 am: Warbler search at the Elsen's

Hill section of West DuPage Woods F.P. The parking lot is on
