From DuPage County:
At Mallard Lake - a GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL, GLAUCOUS and THAYER'S GULLS were seen on Monday. On Saturday, 4 Glaucous Gulls were seen.
At the Arboretum - on Friday the 27th, a TUFTED TITMOUSE was seen near the northeast edges of the Big Rock and Forest Trails near the power lines.
At Hidden Lake - a NORTHERN SHOVELER and 5 GREEN-WINGED TEAL were found on Saturday. A dark phase ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK flew over.
At Fermilab - on Wednesday, a pair of LESSER SCAUP and a HOODED MERGANSER were at Swan Lake. A pair of BLACK DUCKS was inside the ring. SNOW GEESE were in the Buffalo Field.
In Lombard - a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was found on Friday at the campus of the National College of Chiropractic on Roosevelt Road.
In Lisle - a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was found at the tollway building at the intersection of 355 and 88
In Naperville - 18 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS were found on Saturday.
At Pratt's Wayne - SHORT-EARED OWLS were seen along with a HARRIER this week.
From Kane County:
Last week, there were 2 flocks of LAPLAND LONGSPURS west of Kaneville on Main Street. This is a consistently good spot to see these birds in the winter.

Here is the next field trip of the DuPage Birding Club:
On January 12th, join Urs Geiser on a search of the Des Plaines River. Meet at the Menard's parking lot on Route 53 just south of Interstate 55 at 7:30am.
The next meeting of the DuPage Birding Club will be on January 9th
The topic will be Birds of the Rio Grande Valley by Father Tom Pincelli.
Please note that the location of the meetings has changed. Our new location is First Church of Lombard on 220 South Main Street in Lombard. Main Street is east of Finley Road and west of Highland Avenue. The church is one mile north of Roosevelt Road on the west side of the street.
Social time starts at 7pm and the meeting will begin at 7:30pm.

The Morton Arboretum is located on Route 53 in Lisle, just north of Interstate 88,
Hidden Lake Forest Preserve is located north of Lisle just south of the intersection of Route 56 and Route 53. It is on the east side of Route 53. To get to the location to view the river, walk north from the parking lot, across the rock bridge to the high point that overlooks the mudflat and river. (P-7)
To get to Mallard Lake, which is located near Bloomingdale, take Gary Avenue north from Army Trail. Turn west on Lawrence. This will take you to the entrance to Mallard Lake Forest Preserve. (M-6)
To get to the Buffalo Wallow and Buffalo Field, enter Fermilab from the west side Pine Street gate and continue for 1.85 miles until you see a pond just inside the fence on your left. This is the Buffalo Wallow which is in the Buffalo Field. (P-4)
