Greetings

This is the DuPage Birding Club Hotline for Friday, February 3,
1995 at 9:30pm. To make a report, please call 708-406-1535. A
transcript of this report is now being posted on the Internet.

Contents include:

new reports,
a recap of previous reports,
recaps from neighboring hotlines,
the All Points Bulletin
and, at the end, directions.

Both phases of ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, 2 NORTHERN HARRIERS, a COOPERS
HAWK and a NORTHERN SHRIKE were seen on January 31 at Nelson Lake
Marsh. The shrike was seen in the open area after the first pond
near the entrance and near the first bench along the path. It
was seen at 3:30pm and was not seen for nearly an hour before
then.

A NORTHERN HARRIER was at Fermilab on January 31.

BLACK DUCKS were at Hidden Lake Forest Preserve on February 1.

A TUNDRA SWAN was at Swan Lake at Fermilab the morning of January
30. It was not seen later in the day or on subsequent days.

SHORT-EARED OWLS continue to be seen along Munger Road near
Pratt's Wayne Woods. The last report that I have is for January
29. The best place to look is north of Army Trail Road and south
of the railroad tracks. The best time is at dusk. If you're
lucky, you'll hear them barking. A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was also
seen here on the 29th.

The NORTHERN SHIKE was again seen at Pratt's Wayne Woods along
the Prairie Path on January 29.

Here is a summary of reports from the last tape:

LAPLAND LONGSPURS, SNOW BUNTINGS and HORNED LARKS are being seen
in South Elgin. They are located in a "manure slick" in a field
south of Kenyan Street, between the Prairie Path and Route 25.
Park on the shoulder on the north side and scan the slick. If
you get out of the car, the birds will flush.

A flock of 25 ROBINS was at Blackwell Forest Preserve on January
27.

2 MUTE SWANS, 75 COMMON GOLDENEYE, a KINGFISHER and 20 COMMON
MERGANSERS were in Blackwell Forest Preserve on January 27.

A ROUGH LEGGED HAWK was seen at the DuPage River Park on the
South Side of Naperville on January 25.

A BROWN THRASHER and a NORTHERN FLICKER were seen on January 28
in Greene Valley Forest Preserve.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE, WOOD DUCK and HORNED LARKS were at Fermilab on
January 21.

About 20 BLACK DUCKS and a COOPERS HAWK were at Blackwell Forest
Preserve on January 21.

Now we'll recap highlights from neighboring hotlines.

Here are directions to the following locations:

To get to Munger Road, take Route 59 to Army Trail Road. Go west
for about a mile to Munger.

To get to Swan Lake, enter Fermilab from the east entrance.
Follow the main road to the highrise. Swan Lake is the large
lake northwest of the highrise.

To get to Nelson Lake Marsh, go west on Main Street from its

south on Nelson Lake Road. The parking lot is on your right
after 0.2 miles.
