A COOPERS-HAWK and a GREAT HORNED OWL were at Greene Valley Forest Preserve on January 16, near the ranger's residence.
A NORTHERN HARRIER was at Dragon Lake on January 19.
A RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH was by the visitor center at the Arboretum on January 14.
Here is a summary of reports from the last tape:
SHORT-EARED OWLS are being seen along Munger Road near Pratt's Wayne Woods. Three owls were last reported on January 15. The best place to look is north of Army Trail road and south of the railroad tracks. The best time is at dusk. 5 NORTHERN HARRIERS and a EASTERN MEADOWLARK were also seen on January 15. A COMMON SNIPE was seen here on January 14. This is an ethics alert. Please do not stomp around in the woods and fields looking for the owls or trying to flush them. There have been some reports that this is happening and this activity is not helpful.
An adult THAYERS GULL and an adult GLAUCOUS GULL were seen near Greene Valley Forest Preserve on January 16. They were in the quarry south of the preserve, north of Royce Road and between Route 53 and Greene Road.
A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was at Dragon Lake on January 15.
A DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT was seen in Batavia on January 9.
11 COMMON MERGANSERS were at Blackwell Forest Preserve on January 15.
A SNOW GOOSE was seen flying with 3 CANADA GEESE just west of Black Partridge Woods on January 16.
At Fermilab, on January 15, a NORTHERN PINTAIL was at Swenson Road Marsh. A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen further along Swenson Road. Also at Fermilab were 4 GREAT BLUE HERONS and a FLICKER.
