Threatened by development and loss of habitat, the few remaining pairs of Swainson's Hawks in NW Kane County are the only Swainson's Hawks known to breed east of the Mississippi River.  Once common in the area, there are now only two or three breeding pairs in the county.  This light-morph bird was photographed by Carolyn Fields while flying over the Huntley Outlet Mall on Route 47 in north-west Kane County.
