Usually found in marshes with dense reeds or cattails.  They are very secretive and are often only seen in flight.  Watch for a small heron (smaller than a Green Heron) flying briefly up out of the reeds then quickly going back down.  The marsh near the dog training field at Pratt's Wayne Woods is a good spot to look as well as other areas in the preserve.  The marshes at  Springbrook Prairie are also very good.  The bird above was seen out in the open at a drained marsh near Elsen's Hill.
