This Hermit Warbler showed up at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle on December 8th, 2002. The bird, probably a first year male, was seen well into January frequenting the evergreen trees on the east side of the Arboretum. The bird was secretive and hard to find, but it could often be found associating with the resident Black-Capped Chickadees. This bird which is normally found in California, Oregon, and Washington was the first confirmed state record of this species.
